The mission here at SS-UNITED-STATES.COM is to build awareness of this ship - a giant ocean liner that many simply call the Big U.
In her short 17 years, the U transported over one million passengers. This steam ship sailed millions of miles and she never failed. Her mission: to connect continents and bring people together. Even today, more than 35 years after active duty, the SS UNITED STATES continues to bring people together. Just park yourself on South Columbus Boulevard in Philadelphia and watch the people that come, get out of their cars and walk up to the fence to get closer to the SS UNITED STATES. Young and old - the Big U is making new friends. But what about her future? |

The SS UNITED STATES represents the effort, talent, intelligence and daring of humans. From her naval architects and the yard workers who built her - to the engineers and deck crew that operated her - and of course the million plus that were passengers aboard - the ship is a story about great human accomplishment.
